Passageneset Park at Broad Meadows Marsh
This beautiful, waterfront 35 acre park boasts magnificent views, 1.3 miles of walking trails and several acres of upland meadows that
is the result of a recent marsh restoration project. The park’s naming is based on the Native American name for the site, Passanageset Knoll; one of the homes of Chickatawbut, leader of the Massachusett tribe in the early 1600s.
The History Girls of the Broad Meadows Middle School launched a three year, after school campaign to work with The City of Quincy, descendants of the Massachusett Tribe, the Massachusetts State government, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Geographic Names Information System and others to recognize the historical significance of the land where, at the time of the arrival of the Europeans, Sac'hem Chickatawbut had his home and summer headquarters.
