Heritage Day in Braintree
Braintree's Heritage Day Celebration will highlight the 200th Anniversary of Gen. Sylvanus Thayer assuming command of West Point. Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Sherman Fleek, West Point's command historian will speak at 1:30pm. Thayer, an 1808 graduate of the academy, returned in 1817 as its Superintendent. During his sixteen year tenure, he introduced administrative and educational reforms and created a pre-eminent school of engineering and is known as "The Father of West Point". Keith Clougherty, a graduate of Boston School of Fine Arts at Tufts University is working on Manufacturing in Braintree through the Years, a new exhibit to open at the Braintree Historical Society in the spring.

Event will be held at the home of Gen. Sylvanus Thayer, a building owned and operated by the Braintree Historical Society.
