Annual Christmas Parade and festivities for Thanksgiving Weekend
Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks and a tradition dating back to the pilgrims landing in neighboring Plymouth, MA. In Quincy, the tradition is kicked off with the 84th Annual Football game with crosstown rivals Quincy High School and North Quincy High School held at Veteran's Memorial Stadium, 850 Hancock Street, on Thursday, November 24th at 10am. On Friday, November 25, the Quincy Center Tree Lighting Festivities start at 5:30pm on the City Hall Lawn with Santa's mailbox available for children to mail letters through late December. On Saturday, November 26, characters from the parade greet children as they await Santa Claus arrival by parachute at Pageant Field, One Merrymount Parkway, starting at noon. The grand finale of the weekend, is a holiday tradition attended by mulitple generations of families who usually have a favorite spot along the route; Hancock Street between School Street and East Squantum Street. The 64th Annual Quincy's Christmas Parade Theme for 2016 is “Traditions of Christmas”. Come watch the marching bands, floats, costumed characters, antique vehicles, and Santa's traditional fire truck ride to get in the holiday spirit at one of the largest parades in the Commonwealth.
